News Brief for Sun 23rd July 2023

Hello Club Members, Fellow Amateur Operators, and Everyone,
This is John, VK5RJ with this week’s news from AHARS.
Yes, a very successful Buy and Sell event at the Marion RSL Last Saturday. Apart from the equipment and paraphernalia that changed hands, many friendships and acquaintances were remade, and new ones struck up. I enjoyed the day immensely, and was very happy to see that it went so well
A big thank you to Geoff, VK5JB for the great work that he put in to make it a success. Additionally, a big thankyou to all our members who contributed in any way during the day.
Sales of the Lee Turner Estate items went well, with many moved on. There are still a couple of very expensive high power linear amplifiers for sale if anybody is interested. Get in touch with Barry (VK5BW) for details.
Thursday nights meeting went well, with an excellent presentation on WICEN given by the President, Louis (VK5FLY). It is a really worthwhile organisation, and I encourage anybody who is at all interested to look up their web page and consider joining up. You never know when you might be able to help if there is a disaster or some other calamity. They are having one of their regular BBQ get togethers on Saturday 29th July and the North Glenelg Scout Hall. Get along for a good day, with a free sausage and soft drink.
Don’t forget that if you want to reserve a place on the next John Dawes Session, on Writing for Radio, you need to drop me an email reserving your spot. We are hoping that we can get similar numbers to those who participated in John’s last session. This one will be run on Saturday 5th of August at 10:00 am in the Hewitt Room at the Blackwood Uniting Church. Please see the flyer attached flyer to the email for this.
Next month at the General Meeting on Thursday the 17th of August we will be having a presentation on Astronomy, by Kym Thalassoudis from the Astronomical Society of South Australia.  More information on this in the coming weeks, but I assure you that it will be very interesting.
We will also soon be emailing out “The Questionaire” that Paul (VK5PH) introduced to us on Thursday Evening. This is your chance to tell us all about the good and bad, and your hopes and expectations of the Club. We are hoping that everybody will be honest and open with their responses. For those that don’t have or use email, we will have hard copies at future Saturday Sessions and Club Meetings.

Monday night AHARS 2 metre net. 
147.00 on VK5RAD at 20:00 It is a general chat about what we have all been doing and anything that is of interest. It is open to all registered Amateur Operators, and we especially welcome new and recently licensed people to join in and overcome the jitters of being on air.  You don’t have to be an AHARS Member to join in.
Boat Anchor Net. 
Conducted by VK5LB (Dean) on 3.62 MHz every Tuesday evening at 19:30   One of the longest running Nets on the airwaves anywhere!  Come up and say Hello if you have 80 metre capability!
ANZA DX Net
The ANZA (Australian, New Zealand and Africa) net runs every day on 14.183MHZ at 0515UTC with an early check in at 0500UTC.  It is a list net and one has to wait one's turn to give reports, etc. There are check-ins from all over the world (anywhere from 15 to 35 per day) and it would be a great platform for those wanting to work towards their DXCC awards.  Paul, VK5PAS and Shirley VK5YL alternate as net controllers on Thursday, which is Ladies Day, but all are welcome any day.
