The latest news from The Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society 25/11/2020
This Fridays lunch at the RSL is on as usual except it is important you contact the RSL to book your place for the lunch at the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. The limit is ten people per table and they will book us in under multiple names. No pre booking, no lunch ! Good news, the AHARS web site is now working. Paul, VK5PAS the web master, has spent a lot of time updating and giving the site a new look. https://www.ahars.com.au/ It is now more important than ever to listen to the Sunday broadcasts and remember if you cannot listen to these live you can find them on the NERC web site and listen to them at your leisure. http://northeastradioclub.org.au/wia-broadcast/ Here you will find audio files of both the national and the local broadcasts. It is also a good excuse to get on the air and talk to each other via our network of repeaters. I am concerned we do not use these as much as we should and there will be other organisations looking at the radio spectrum we occupy and perhaps we may loose some of this. Take our 2 metre Monday night net for example. AHARS has 185 members and we often have only as few as ten or twelve people log in, and some of these are not AHARS members. Remember, all hams, not only AHARS members, are welcome to join the Monday night net. Keep an eye on your emails and an ear on the Sunday broadcasts to find out what AHARS is planning over the next few weeks. The committee has decided we will not have a Christmas Dinner this year. Instead we are planning to have our January Picnic on Sunday the 17th of January at the Marion RSL like we have had for the past two years. It will be free to financial members of AHARS. The price for non members, including partners who are not financial members of AHARS, will be $15.00 including a desert. I will be calling for registrations when we have finalised the arrangement with the RSL. The increase in price is because we cannot supply our own deserts this year due to covid rules. 2020 is almost gone and it is time to think about the AHARS committee for 2021. AHARS needs you ! Last week I sent out a document outlining the duties of those on the committee and a nomination form. If you feel moved to join the committee, fill out this form and post it to me at PO Box 501 Modbury or scan and sent via email. Good news, the AHARS web site is now working. Paul, VK5PAS the web master, has spent a lot of time updating and giving the site a new look. https://www.ahars.com.au/ Lunches at the Blackwood RSL are on the second and the fourth Friday of each month. The next lunch will be on the 27th of November. You can book for the lunch at the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. The RSL would like us to book for the Friday lunches a day or two before the actual day so they have an idea of how many will be attending. At the November meeting Brian, VK5VI, will present a presentation on the South East Radio Group linked repeater network. This will be interesting to many as it is a complex network with a lot of history. Soon it will extend its reach into western Victoria. At last weeks committee meeting we authorised the purchase of the hardware to add two extra SDR receivers to the remote receiving site provided by Paul VK5PH. I have had several requests to start the regular videoing of the general meetings and I am looking for someone to do this again. Would be easier for that person if we had two or three people who would like to do this and we could have a roster to make it easier on those doing this. The committee has decided we would not have a Christmas Dinner this year, the logistics of this are difficult due to the Covid restrictions. Instead we are planning to have our January Picnic on Sunday the 17th of January at the Marion RSL like we have had for the past two years. It will be free to financial members of AHARS. The price for non members including partners who are not financial members of AHARS has not been decided yet, we are waiting for the RSL secretary to get back to us. I will be calling for registrations when we have finalised the arrangement with the RSL. In addition to maintaining the AHARS web site, Paul VK5PAS, has take over the club history records from Lloyd Butler. 2020 is almost gone and it is time to think about the AHARS committee for 2021. AHARS needs you ! I have attached a document outlining the duties of those on the committee and a nomination form if you feel moved to join the committee. This can be posted to me at PO Box 501 Modbury or scanned and sent via email. Gday folks, this is Phil VK5SRP with the latest news from The Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society.
Good news, the AHARS web site is now working. Paul, VK5PAS the web master, has spent a lot of time updating and giving the site a new look. https://www.ahars.com.au/ Lunches at the Blackwood RSL are on the second and the fourth Friday of each month. The November lunches will be on the 13th and the 27th of the month. You can book for the lunch at the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. The RSL would like us to book for the Friday lunches a day or two before the actual day so they have an idea of how many will be attending. The October general meeting was well attended and we had more Show and Tells than we could run on the night. The plan is to present these after the AGM on the 18th of February At the November meeting Brian, VK5VI, will present a presentation on the South East Radio Group linked repeater network. This will be interesting to many as it is a complex network with a lot of history. Soon it will extend its reach into western Victoria. I have had several requests to start the regular videoing of the general meetings and I am looking for someone to do this again. Would be easier for that person if we had two or three people who would like to do this and we could have a roster to make it easier on those doing this. At the last committee meeting we decided we would not have a Christmas Dinner this year, the logistics of this are difficult due to the Covid restrictions. Instead we are planning to have our January Picnic on Sunday the 17th of January at the Marion RSL and like last year, it will be free to financial members. It will be about $10.00 for non members including your partners who are not financial members of AHARS. I will be calling for registrations when we have finalised the arrangement with the RSL. I am still looking for someone to take over the club history records from Lloyd Butler. Lloyd has turned 96 and he says he has done his bit, it is time for a younger person to take over. If you would like to take over this important task please email me and I will send you the letter Lloyd has sent the committee.
