AHARS news for 24/6/2021

Thanks to Geoff we have found a new venue for our General Meetings and a BIG thankyou to Geoff, Christine and Barry for visiting the site last Thursday before our General Meeting to look it over and to take some photos to show at that nights club meeting. The response from all present was favourable and I have now started the process of booking the Anne Jolly Hall at CRAFERS. Behind the Church of the Epiphany at Crafers
This venue is easy to access, take the freeway to the Crafers exit, at the roundabout in Crafers, turn off towards Mount Lofty Summit, then IMMEDIATELY turn left into Epiphany Place. Follow the road a short distance to the church driveway on the right. The Anne Jolly Hall is behind the church.

A big thank you to Brian VK5VI for his presentation on the South East Radio Groups linked repeater network in the south of our state at last Thursdays General Meeting. This net is soon to be extended into Victoria.

At the July the 15th General Meeting we will have a talk by Dean VK5LB introducing us to his latest toy, a Hack RF rig.

On August he 19th, we have four fellows from AREG who took part in the A35JT Tonga expedition, telling us a great story.

The next lunch at the Blackwood RSL will be on Friday the 25th of June. These lunches are booked for noon at the Blackwood RSL. If you wish to attend the lunch you should book with the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. This makes catering easier for them.

The AHARS shirts are ready and Pat has delivered some of them at the coffee morning and at the recent General Meeting. If you cannot collect them at a meeting please email Pat to make other arrangements. patstorr@adam.com.au

The latest AHARS calendar is on the web site. It is version four and can be accessed by:
Clicking on the upcoming events tab at the opening page and then under the BIG PDF logo you will find a PDF file called AHARS Calendar_ 2021 and a version number. Click on this file, this is the calendar.

The Ironstone Range site has been down, off and on, due to insufficient battery power. We have been given some BIG batteries and with some other additions we should soon have sufficient 12 Volt power to keep the site running all the time.

Keep an eye on your emails and an ear on the Sunday broadcasts to find out what AHARS is planning for 2021.
My email address for this month is philstorr@adam.com.au. That’s all for this week, 73

We have been under the impression for some time the shack site may be sold  and redeveloped but the ladies who look after the hall are putting up a fight to keep the facility as a training and archival storage site for the Girl Guides. They have a lot of equipment and historical artefacts stored in their shed on the site. AHARS members have had several work bees to clean out and repair and make this shed much more secure over the past ten years.

We are now planning on starting our coffee and chat sessions at the shack on the second Saturday of the month, the first for 2021 will be June 12th.

The AHARS shack is used for coffee and chat sessions, assessment and training and for technical update sessions. We have several technical sessions planned but have not been able  put them on the 2021 calendar yet. We have some excellent STEM kits for basic training built by Jim VK5TR and we are planning on using these later this year.

The June General Meeting we were going to be a presentation by Joe and Julie, two visitors from Victoria and their presentation was to be entitled Amateur Radio For Kids. The covid lockdown in Victoria has put a stop to this but Brian VK5VI has put his hand up to do a presentation on the South East Radio Groups linked repeater network in the south of our state. This net is soon to be extended into Victoria.

AHARS is planning on having a silent auction soon and John VK5EMI is busy making up a list of the more valuable items that are stored in various members QTH’s and in the shack, mostly from deceased estate collections.

The next lunch at the Blackwood RSL will be on Friday the 11th of June. These lunches are booked for noon at the Blackwood RSL. If you wish to attend the lunch you should book with the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. This makes catering easier for them.

Please keep your subs rolling in. If you do not have access to on-line banking you can send us your payment to the AHARS post box, AHARS Inc, P.O. Box 401, Blackwood, S.A. 5051. Subs are now $25 for WIA members and $30 for no WIA members.
