G’day Folks, I now have one offer of a presentation for sessions at the AHARS general meetings. I cannot put together a calendar until I have more suggestions and offers from people who will run these sessions, how about volunteering please. These sessions can be technical (even radio related) travel, mechanical or even medical matters. If you can help
out, please contact me via email at philstorr@adam.com.au As it is now less than two weeks to our next General Meeting I have decided we should have a buy and sell for the general meeting on the 17th of March. These events are always popular and all sorts of treasures tune up on the night. The meeting will be at the BUC. I will open the doors at about 6.45 to give more time to bring your valuable stuff inside and set it up. Please label your items with working or not working and a suggested price you are expecting to get for it. The stuff up at the AGM last month was because the Office Manager Jacqui resigned and the BUC still does not have a new person to carry out that function. The acting office manager did not seem to know we had booked the whole hall for the third Thursday night, they were of the opinion we only booked part of the hall, the back half. When I was negotiating with the former Office Manager I made it quite clear we needed all the hall, including the screen. Jacqui knew we needed all the hall. It looks like the acting office manager did not know this. From the acting Office manager. – “As I said in my phone message, we do apologise for the mix-up for your February meeting. I wasn't aware you needed the projector screen, as your booking is for the eastern end of the Hall, so didn't arrange for the bikes to be stacked to the side. We also had a large funeral for an long-standing member of our church and the team setting up didn't think to check the Room Hire Bookings so used the space for additional seating and to prepare for morning tea, etc. I'd like to offer you a free booking in compensation, along with our apologies.” I do not know why she did not know we use all the hall ? I am sure Jacqgu would have made that quite clear. The committee visited a National Trust facilities in Coromandel Valley on Saturday the 5th to look at their facilities and see how they would work for our Saturday Mornings and training events. A replacement for our shack. All of the dates we need for the next year are free of bookings, the second and fourth Saturdays and a number of third Saturdays and Sunday dates for training and assessments. The venue has several areas that will work well for our activities and we could also hold a BBQ on any fifth Saturday mornings that occur during the year. They have a Gazebo we could use for this event The only problem we see is there is no storage space for the “stuff” in our shack but I am sure we can overcome this limitation. The National Trust has another venue near by that would need some repair if we were to be allowed to use it. I wonder if a member of AHARS has some storage space near by ? If you have significant storage space near by, perhaps on a farm or commercial property give this request some thought. Saturday mornings are a problem finding a venue, the halls in the area are booked for all sorts of events on Saturdays and usually all day. I have had a lot of suggestions for venues but they are either booked well in advance, require a vast amount of repair to make them habitable or are in the process of being redeveloped. The next lunch at the RSL will be on the 11th of March and we will do it all again on the25th of March. We will also have a coffee and chat at the shack on the 12th of March. I am partly handicapped with a “floaty” in my left eye and this is making reading and writing difficult. I think it is gradually going away, well that is what the “eye Doctor” is telling me should happen. Stay healthy and safe folks Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP
