We are going to have our annual dinner at the Belair Hotel again this year and it will be on the 28th of November, starting time 12 noon. The meal will be two courses and tea and coffee will be supplied. The cost will be $30.00.
Urgent: Please book with Pat at patstorr@adam.com.au. We need to give the Hotel final numbers by the 19th of November so please book now. Shirley is working her annual magic, buying up the door prises for this event. The next lunch at the Blackwood RSL will be on Friday the 26th of November. These lunches are booked for noon at the Blackwood RSL. If you wish to attend the lunch you should book with the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. This makes catering easier for them. If you wish to borrow magazines from AHARS you may have to visit the shack until we work out a better plan, there is insufficient storage at the church. All future General Meetings will be at the Blackwood Uniting Church, the Church by the round about. The next general meeting will be on Thursday the 18th of November and the starting time will be 7.00 PM for a 7.30 PM. This will be a talk by Graham, VK5ZFZ, on the history of the Rola company. There is a lot of parking behind the church in a well lit car park Christine is planning a special supper for our general meeting on the 18th of November. This will be our last General Meeting for 2021, general meetings start again on the 17th of February with our AGM. Have you thought about putting your hand up for a position on the AHARS Committee ? I will email a document outlining the duties of those on the committee closer to the date of the AGM Other dates to keep in mind: Pat has booked the 16th of January 2022 with the Marion RSL for our January Picnic, keep that date in your diary. This will be the third year we have used this venue and if you have children or grand children they will enjoy playing in the outdoors on that day. We could also setup a station in the park if someone would like to organise it ? -- Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP

My best laid plans for shifting the stuff from the Blackwood community hall to the AHARS shack came unstuck this weekend. The hall was being used on Saturday the 25th and we could not get in to collect our stuff. I did manage to book a time slot for Friday the 24th of September at 2.00PM and another for the ninth of October at 8.00 AM. On Friday we managed to take out most of the stuff, the only thing left behind was the Big double door cabinet and we will be able to collect that Saturday the 9th. BIG thankyou to Barry, Brian, John and Pat for the help at such short notice. The next lunch at the Blackwood RSL will be on Friday the 8th of October. These lunches are booked for noon at the Blackwood RSL. If you wish to attend the lunch you should book with the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. The next general meeting will be on the 21st of October and the starting time will be 7.00 PM for a 7.30 PM. This will be a talk about Codan radio by Det VK5DET. Other dates to keep in mind: Advanced notice of Lunches at the RSL, October the 8th and October the 22nd. Coffee and chat at the shack, October the 9th, starting time 9.00 AM, after we have shifted the cabinet to the Shack. We will need a few people at the old meeting hall, the Blackwood Community Hall, at 8.00 AM that morning (the 9th of October) to help load the BIG cabinet into a trailer so we can transport it to the Shack. We have a volunteer with a 4X4, a trailer and a sack truck (Eric VK5FDIR) but we will need about six people to man handle the cabinet from that building and into the Shack. If you can help please email me at philstorr@adam.com.au. That way I will know if we have a crew to help. Brunch at the shack, October the 30th, $5.00 a head. This cabinet holds our video projector, our sound system, our supply of cups and our tea and coffee supplies. Only the latter will be required at our new location, the Blackwood Uniting Church. We will need someone with a trailer to shift this stuff down the road to our shack and we will need four to six strong members to do the fetch and carry part of the operation.
I cannot set a day until I have a list of volunteers but I am hoping we can do it next Saturday when we have a coffee and chat at the shack. If you can help please email me or text me today so I can then work out the logistics of the operation and notify the council of our plans. philstorr@adam.com.au or 0428 835 621 There was an open inspection of items for the blind auction at the shack last weekend. This auction is open to all licensed Amateurs that are members of Armature Radio clubs, not only AHARS members. The blind auction works this way: you look at the items and then fill out a form with the price you bid for the item. Bidding stared on the 11th of September at the inspection and ends on the 22nd of September. If you did not make it to the open inspection you can still bid for items in the auction. If you do not have a list of items send me an email and I will send you the list. philstorr@adam.com.au. Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP Pat has found us a new excellent venue for our General Meetings, just down the road from our old meeting hall. It is the Blackwood Uniting Church Hall, at the round about where you turn right to head down Shepherds Hill Road. Not far from our old meeting hall. The sticking point in finding a new venue was Thursday nights. We could get Wednesday or Friday nights and Christine would not have been available to look after supper and we know how much members look forward to supper and a chat after the guest speakers and other activities.
The new venue has a spectacular kitchen facility, a built in video projector and good sound system. The only task we have in setting up the hall is putting out the chairs when we get there at 7.00 PM and sweeping up any mess we make when our meeting is finished and sanitising the chairs we used. General meetings start at 7.30 PM and we open the hall at 7.00 PM to setup. We will appreciate help in setting up and cleaning up at the end of the meeting. Looks good for our August the 19th General Meeting still at the old venue, our second to last meeting there. We have Grant, Andy, Steve and Oly, four fellows from AREG, who took part in the A35JT Tonga expedition, telling us a great story. Keep an eye on your emails just in case covid scuttles this plan. We have not negotiated storage for our magazines at the new venue and we will be shifting the BIG cabinet to the shack and members will be able to access the magazines from there on the second and fourth Saturday mornings. I am sure we can find someone willing to look after the latest magazines and bring them to meetings ! We went back to the Blackwood RSL on the 13th of August and hopefully we can continue with the second and fourth Fridays from then on. I do not know about the RSL opening for the Christmas/New your period and will publish the dates when I get a reply from the RSL The AHARS shirts are ready and Pat has delivered some of them at the coffee mornings and at the recent General Meetings. Not much else today so I have room for a commercial. “I have a 12 Mtr tower with 5 Mtr winch up mast. I was going to get it removed and scrapped. It has a crows nest at the top and it breaks in two making 2 by 6 Mtr lengths. If someone wants to remove it they can have it. Yaesu FT 707 with a runaway digital display. Phil was talking to one of our club members during a Friday lunch about a FT707 problem. He does not remember who it was. The problem is. After some use as a mobile unit, the frequency and display became unusable when the set started to warm up. The fault was traced to a filter coil solder joint under the RF board close the connector (J 05). The solder connection was fractured and this was rectified with a cleanup and fresh solder applied. Many of you would have heard about the disaster that happened to Trevor’s VK5TW IC-7300 but just in case you have not I have attached the story to this email.
