I have been working on a new version of the calendar incorporating changes we made at the last committee meeting. I will send this out to the web site this coming week and to Paul to update the web site.
Andrew Russell’s talk at the last General Meeting about the VLF and LF bands was very good. I will ask him to give us a PDF version of it to put on the web site. We had two visitors from Kenya, a very experienced operator, Max Raicha Call Sign 5Z4MR and his son, Anand who now lives in Australia. It was just as well Christine came to help Pat with the supper that night, she was brought up in Kenya and still speaks fluent Swahili, the native language of this countries people. Max was very impressed with her language skills after many years and they had no trouble communicating in that language. At the next General Meeting on the 19th of May Dean VK5LB will show and tell us about the antenna tuning units he has made. Sorry to Dean, he must have missed my message about the change of speaker for the night, he is the speaker for the May meeting. Thank you if you are one of the people who have volunteered to do a session at a general meeting. Presentations usually last about 45 minutes to one hour and can be radio and electronic subjects or general interest topics. As there are five Saturdays in April and this means we can have a fifth Saturday brunch at the shack on that day, the 30th of April. Starting time will be 10.00AM and please book your place with Pat - patstorr@adam.com.au. This could well be the last such event at that venue. The local National Trust people are keen to get us to use the Watchmans House in Coromandel Valley, not far away from where we now meet but the ladies who look after the shack want us to keep using it for as long as it is available. The next lunch at the RSL will be on Friday the 13th of May at 12 noon and the next social gathering at the shack will be on Saturday the 14th of May at 10.00 AM. We are going to start all the Saturday Morning shack sessions at 10.00AM in future. I am hoping we can re start our technical talks at the shack on the fourth Saturdays soon. I have had some interesting topics suggested in response to my call for speakers at General Meetings. One or two of the topics would be more appropriate for a technical session at the shack. While we are talking about the shack, have you booked for the Brunch next Saturday morning ? Wishing you all a pleasant week, stay safe and away from covid, Phil VK5SRP -- Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP

Barry VK5BW is making progress recovering from the Stroke he had recently, we wish him all the best and hope for a full recovery soon. Barry was allowed to go home last Thursday and he is very pleased, the food in the hospitals was almost in edible.
Our Secretary Glenn VK5GLM is taking over looking after the repeater network, he has a similar technical background to Barry and Barry will be able to school him up on the repeater network. I have put together the calendar for 2022 after having enough responses to my call for people to put a hand up to do presentations at the general meetings. Thank you if you are one of these people. Presentations usually last about 45 minutes to one hour and can be radio and electronic subjects or general interest topics. I emailed out a PDF file of the 2022 calendar on Thursday the 24th of March. If you did not get this then I do not have a current email address for you. Please send your email address to philstorr@adam.com.au The next lunch at the RSL will be on Friday the 22nd of April at 12 noon and the next social gathering at the shack will be on Saturday the 23rd of April at 10.00 AM. Starting time will be 10.00AM and please book your place with Pat - patstorr@adam.com.au. This could well be the last such event at that venue. We have one promising venue as a replacement for the shack but we are still negotiating for it and other sites. I noticed at the General Meeting not everyone put their name on the attendance register. This is important, this covers us for our Public Liability Insurance which this year has cost over $400 and is necessary coverage for our use of the venue Wishing you all a pleasant week, stay safe and away from covid, Phil VK5SRP Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP G’day Folks, I now have one offer of a presentation for sessions at the AHARS general meetings. I cannot put together a calendar until I have more suggestions and offers from people who will run these sessions, how about volunteering please. These sessions can be technical (even radio related) travel, mechanical or even medical matters. If you can help
out, please contact me via email at philstorr@adam.com.au As it is now less than two weeks to our next General Meeting I have decided we should have a buy and sell for the general meeting on the 17th of March. These events are always popular and all sorts of treasures tune up on the night. The meeting will be at the BUC. I will open the doors at about 6.45 to give more time to bring your valuable stuff inside and set it up. Please label your items with working or not working and a suggested price you are expecting to get for it. The stuff up at the AGM last month was because the Office Manager Jacqui resigned and the BUC still does not have a new person to carry out that function. The acting office manager did not seem to know we had booked the whole hall for the third Thursday night, they were of the opinion we only booked part of the hall, the back half. When I was negotiating with the former Office Manager I made it quite clear we needed all the hall, including the screen. Jacqui knew we needed all the hall. It looks like the acting office manager did not know this. From the acting Office manager. – “As I said in my phone message, we do apologise for the mix-up for your February meeting. I wasn't aware you needed the projector screen, as your booking is for the eastern end of the Hall, so didn't arrange for the bikes to be stacked to the side. We also had a large funeral for an long-standing member of our church and the team setting up didn't think to check the Room Hire Bookings so used the space for additional seating and to prepare for morning tea, etc. I'd like to offer you a free booking in compensation, along with our apologies.” I do not know why she did not know we use all the hall ? I am sure Jacqgu would have made that quite clear. The committee visited a National Trust facilities in Coromandel Valley on Saturday the 5th to look at their facilities and see how they would work for our Saturday Mornings and training events. A replacement for our shack. All of the dates we need for the next year are free of bookings, the second and fourth Saturdays and a number of third Saturdays and Sunday dates for training and assessments. The venue has several areas that will work well for our activities and we could also hold a BBQ on any fifth Saturday mornings that occur during the year. They have a Gazebo we could use for this event The only problem we see is there is no storage space for the “stuff” in our shack but I am sure we can overcome this limitation. The National Trust has another venue near by that would need some repair if we were to be allowed to use it. I wonder if a member of AHARS has some storage space near by ? If you have significant storage space near by, perhaps on a farm or commercial property give this request some thought. Saturday mornings are a problem finding a venue, the halls in the area are booked for all sorts of events on Saturdays and usually all day. I have had a lot of suggestions for venues but they are either booked well in advance, require a vast amount of repair to make them habitable or are in the process of being redeveloped. The next lunch at the RSL will be on the 11th of March and we will do it all again on the25th of March. We will also have a coffee and chat at the shack on the 12th of March. I am partly handicapped with a “floaty” in my left eye and this is making reading and writing difficult. I think it is gradually going away, well that is what the “eye Doctor” is telling me should happen. Stay healthy and safe folks Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP Marija VK5MAZ and I will be using VK90ABC again on 23rd & 24th April 2022.
The special event call is to celebrate the 90 year anniversary of the ABC. We will be active on 10, 15, 20, 40, & 80m SSB. We hope to get you in the log. 73, Paul VK5PAS. G'day folks, AHARS is looking for topics for this years general meetings and guest speakers to present them.
If you would like to take part or know someone who would be willing to and good at a presentation, please send me the contact details after asking that person first. Topics do not have to be radio related, medical and general interest topic would be a great change from the usual radio related topics. Phil Storr philstorr@adam.com.au -- Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP The AGM last Thursday night went off well after a bumpy start. Whoever had used the hall days before left a collection of bikes out the front of the hall covered up with wood screens and these covered up the screen that we needed for the AGM. Thanks to our members who moved the screens to one side and we could proceed with the AGM starting fifteen to 20 minutes late. There is a group of people who meet at the church recycle bikes and sell /give them to people in need.
The committee is the same as last year, we have not found any one to take over any of the positions and we have only two “general members” not our usually three. A BIG thankyou to Christine, assisted by Husband Geoff, for doing the AHARS suppers at the general meetings for fifteen years. Geoff can no longer go out at night but we will see him at daylight events. Pat has stepped up to do the suppers and is looking for someone to help with these. Looking for a regular attendee at the general meetings to volunteer to help Pat on the third Thursday night. I am hoping we can get back to our fifth Saturday breakfast even if we do not find a suitable venue for our Saturday activities. We may be able to find a nearby coffee shop. While we still have the shack I intend to start our Saturday morning coffee and chats again on Saturday the 26th of February, starting time 9.00 AM. Remember we are still having lunches at the Blackwood RSL on the Second and Fourth Friday afternoons. The next lunch will be on the 25th of February. These lunches are booked for noon at the Blackwood RSL. If you wish to attend the lunch you should book with the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. We will have to wait and see what Covid is going to do to our plans, keep an ear on the Sunday Broadcast and an eye on these emails The threat of being evicted from the Shack has come up again and we are continuing our quest for a new venue. Geoff has made contact with the National Trust and they have two facilities in the Coramandel Valley area and we will be visiting them early next month. Your subs were due at the AGM, $20.00 for members of the WIA and $25.00 for those who are not members of the Wireless Institute. These prices are for those who pay before the end of March. After that date there will be a $5.00 late fee. You can pay by direct deposit: Direct deposit details are, Name: AHARS, BSB: 105 186, Account no: 036 248 940 If you wish to post your payment the details are: A.H.A.R.S.
