Hello Club Members, Fellow Amateur Operators, and Everyone,
This is John, VK5RJ with this week’s news from the AHARS. So, not much different from last week’s bulletin. The June Saturday Tech Session will be with John Dawes running a class on “Learning about Radio”, already there are 9 (nine) people signed up for the session. Anybody interested in that last spot??????? Just drop me an email, that is to r.john.kent@gmail.com and we will book you in. Registration for the August sessions will be opened in early July. Don’t forget that if you want to reserve a table at the AHARS Public Buy & Sell on Saturday the 15th of July, you need to drop an email to VK5JB, on geoffb.100@bigpond.com . He will get back to you and confirm your booking. Payment will be made on the day at the venue. Again, please see the attached flyer to this email. We will be having a presentation at our June General Meeting by VK5ZC on general Antenna principles and other interesting stuff, so make sure you don’t miss that! We will also be having the good people from WICEN come to address us at our Monthly General Meeting in July, to tell us all about what the do, and how maybe we might be able to participate and help out in their normal and emergency activities. I must put in a plug for our regular Monday Evening AHARS Net, to be found on VK5RAD 2 metre repeater on 147.00 Mhz with a 600Khz negative offset. It is a general chat about what we have all been doing and anything that is of interest. It is open to all registered Amateur Operators, and we especially welcome new and recently licensed people to join in and overcome the jitters of being on air. Starts at 20:00 (8 o’clock) and goes to around 21:30 (half past nine) or thereabouts. Love to hear you come up for a chat if we haven’t had the pleasure previously! You don’t have to be an AHARS member to join in! And for those of you who have a bent for the old age things, don’t forget the Bottle Net conducted by VK5LB (Dean) on 3.62MHz every Tuesday evening at 19:30 One of the longest running Nets on the airwaves anywhere! Come up and say Hello if you have 80 metre capability! As always, if you have anything of interest, or any exciting news, please let me know so we can share things with all our members. And that's all for now from me, so keep looking at the emails, and listening to the Sunday broadcast, and stay away from COVID and other nasty bugs. Cheers & 73 from VK5RJ and AHARS for this week.

Hello Club Members, Fellow Amateur Operators, and Everyone,
This is John, VK5RJ with this week’s news from the AHARS. I wonder how many people have ordered a new NanoVNA after the very successful workshop we held last Saturday Morning. Jim VK5TR gave an excellent session on how to use the device natively, as would be done in a field environment. This needs a bit of familiarisation with the menu structures in the particular device that you are using, as they are not all the same. Using the VNA linked to a laptop or desktop computer via the USB cable makes it much easier when working in a shack or lab as was demonstrated by myself. Also, in June and August, John Dawes will be running some classes on “Learning about Radio” and “Writing for Radio”. These will be limited space events, so you will have to book a place. Anybody wishing to reserve a place in these sessions will need to send an email to myself (that is r.john.kent@gmail.com) confirming that you wish to register. These will be held as the Saturday Technical Sessions for June and August. See the Flyer attached to the email! We will also be having the good people from WICEN come to address us at our Monthly General Meeting in either June or July, and I will confirm the dates in a future bulletin. Don’t forget that at this month’s General meeting, on the 18th of May, we will have a session where Gordon, VK5CAA will tell us about his experiences and involvement in Radio during his time working in Civil Aviation. It should be a great presentation as he was involved for many years. |
