Hello All Fellow Ham Operators,
This is John, VK5RJ with this week’s news from AHARS, the Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society. A committee meeting was held on Saturday and many new and exciting things were discussed, specifically about the creation of sub-committees to deal with specific things such as Training. We would like to acknowledge the efforts of previous committee Geoff (VK5TAW) and his lovely wife Christine for their many years of service to AHARS. Geoff has decided that it is time to retire, and he rightly deserves to do so. Christine for many years helped with the supper that was enjoyed each monthly meeting night. Again many thanks Geoff and Christine If anybody has any ideas on somebody who might be willing to give a presentation to us at a monthly meeting, please drop me an email and let me know. I will be looking for somebody to put up there hand to head up a small sub-committee to look after this task (are you there VK5ZBD )? I will have more to tell you about these sub-committees as we get them established. Don't forget that our next general meeting on the third Thursday of next month (16th March) will be a Club Buy and Sell event, so bring along a pocket of cash, and all those unwanted items that are cluttering up you shack that you haven't used in ages. There will be quite a few items from Silent Key Estates on the table, so you can grab a few bargains. I hope this finds you all well and in good spirits and that's all for now from me, so stay away from COVID and other nasty bugs, and keep up the QSOs. Cheers & 73s from VK5RJ Cheers and 73s, JK VK5RJ WIA#502209 Mob 0407 661239

Good morning folks, here is the latest notes from AHARS, 07022023
We have a new president to take over from me at the AGM, John Kent VK5RJ. Thanks John, I was not looking forward to my seventh year at the helm of AHARS. Under our old constitution I was limited to just three years. To make Johns task easier I am looking at creating a new committee position, the "Immediate past president", we can do this at the AGM on the 16th of this month. Barry also believes he has a new Vice to take over from him. We have a lunch at the RSL next Friday (the 10th) at 12 noon and a coffee and chat on Saturday morning ( the 11th) at 10.00 AM. We may have to make these sessions a week later ? We are hoping we can get back to having technical sessions on a Saturday morning. 73, Phil VK5SRP G'day folks the gremlins have crept into my latest efforts at a calendar. Thanks to Roy I can now correct that. The next two RSL lunches are Friday the 13th and Friday the 27th of January, please make sure you have these dates in you diary. RSL lunches are always the second and fourth Fridays. I hope my effort at attaching the nomination forms have worked. If you wish to stand for a position on the committee please fill out a nomination form and do one of these actions " 1. Scan and post to me at PO Box 501 Modbury 5092 2. Scan and email it to me at philstorr@adam.com.au 3. Bring it to the AHARS January the 15th picnic and give it to me in person. Please note our constitution says we should have nomination forms seven days before the AGM

We will be calling for volunteers to stand for positions on the committee, Barry and I will be retiring from our positions so we will need a President and a Vice president. I will send out a document outlining what each position on the committee is expected to do and I will also send out Nomination forms. We are planing to have Friday lunches at the Blackwood RSL in January, starting with Friday the 9th and then Friday the 23rd. As a courtesy to the RSL it is good to book your attendance. Several of the committee spent last Saturday morning continuing on with cleaning up our "old shack" and we have packed a lot of old books into cartons to be disposed of. I am sure some of the members will find treasures amongst this trash, so I would like to invite members to come to the shack on Saturday morning for our coffee and chat session next Saturday starting at 10.00 AM and help them selves to any of these books that take their fancy. What does not saved on Saturday morning will have to be bumped into bins or skips. Cheers, Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury, South Australia 5092 www.philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP The first activity for this period will be the RSL lunch on Friday the 26th of August at the Blackwood RSL starting at 12 noon.
This will be followed on the 27th of August by a Coffee and Chat at the AHARS shack starting at 10.00 AM to 12 noon. The first RSL lunch for September will be on the 9th of September and the first shack session will be the next day, the 10th of September starting at 10.00 AM. This will be followed by a committee meeting at 12 noon. If you are thinking of standing for a committee position in 2023 you are welcome to attend the committee meeting to see what the committee gets up to. We need “new blood” on the committee as Barry is retiring and I have been the president for six years and we had to modify the Constitution to allow me to stand for more than three years. No one else wanted the position, perhaps this time at the AGM in February, someone will step forward. The General Meeting for September will be on the 15th of September and the presentation will be a Demonstration of Version 3 of the Parks and Peaks application by SueVK5AYL. The second RSL lunch for September will be on the 23rd of the month in the Blackwood RSL and the following day there will be a Coffee and Chat at the shack if that is still available. Keep an ear on the AHARS news and your eyes on your emails to confirm this. We sill do not know when us and the Girl Guides are being tossed out of this facility. The first coffee and chat session for October will be on the 8th of October, hopefully still at the shack. The General Meeting for October will be on Thursday the 20th in the Blackwood Uniting Church hall and will be a members Show and Tell. -- Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP AHARS news for the week beginning Sunday 17th of July 2022
In July our next RSL lunch will be on the 22nd of July and the next coffee and chat will be on the 23rd of July. This will not be in the Watchmans House yet. The July General Meeting will be on the 21st of July and will be a talk by Rod Cunningham, VK5UV, about a Remote station he is setting up near Clare. The Church have found us some storage space at the venue and we will be able to store our magazines and library at the venue soon. The other stuff we do not need access to at meeting, Geoff has offered us storage space at his QTH. I am just waiting for the BUC to get keys cut for the two door cabinet they are making available for us in a room across the passage from the meeting hall. We will need some helpers to help move the stuff from the shack to Geoff’s QTH, if you can help please email me. I do not have any idea when this will be happening yet. The committee is still working on sorting out stuff at the and so far we tossed out a lot of “CRAP”. This process continued on the 2nd of July, and Jim sold more scrap for $58.80. The local National Trust people are keen to get us to use the Watchmans House in Coromandel Valley but the ladies who look after the shack want us to keep using it for as long as it is available. We are going to give consideration at having one of our coffee and chat sessions a month at that venue, stay tuned for details. I am hoping we can re start our technical talks at the shack on the fourth Saturdays soon. I have had some interesting topics suggested in response to my call for speakers at General Meetings. One or two of the topics would be more appropriate for a technical session at the shack as we will need two hours to do them justice. The current outbreaks of Covid make this difficult now, so stay tuned to the Sunday Broadcasts and these emails. As there are five Saturdays in July we will have a Brunch on the 30th of July starting time 10.00 AM and the price $5.00 per person. Please book your attendance at the event with Pat “patstorr@adam.com.au” by email. We are going to have a sale at the Brunch to dispose of items we have cleaned out of the shack so bring some cash on the 30th of July and go home with a bargain or two. The menu for the Brunch will be: Tea and coffee, cereals and fruit, toast and jam, pan cakes and syrup and bacon and eggs. Wishing you all a pleasant week, stay safe and away from covid, Phil VK5SRP -- Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SRP The next lunch at the RSL will be on the 24th of June at noon, the next coffee and chat will be on Saturday the 25th of June at the shack.
In July our first RSL lunch will be on the 8th of July and the first coffee and chat will be on the 9th of July. This may be in the Watchmans House, more information next week. Pat and I are hoping to meet with the new manager of the BUC next Friday to see what storage space they have to offer. Some of the committee worked on sorting out stuff at the shack recently and we tossed out a lot of “CRAP” and Jim took a load of scrap to the scrap metal place and collected $159.00 for it, what a BIG surprise, thanks Jim. This process will continue on the 2nd of July. The local National Trust people are keen to get us to use the Watchmans House in Coromandel Valley, not far away from where we now meet but the ladies who look after the shack want us to keep using it for as long as it is available. At this time I guess it will still be at the old shack site but if we are tipped out by then it will be at the Watchmans House 360 Main Road Coromandle Valley. Please book your attendance at the event with Pat “patstorr@adam.com.au” by email or in person tonight. At the next General Meeting on the 16th of June Bill Cowley will tell us about the 5MBS Transmitter relocation. Thank you if you are one of the people who have volunteered to do a session at a general meeting. Presentations usually last about 45 minutes to one hour and can be radio and electronic subjects or general interest topics. The church have found us some storage space at the venue and we will be able to store our magazines and library at the venue soon. The other stuff we do not need access to at meeting Geoff has offered us storage space at his QTH. There will be another lunch at the RSL on the 24th of June and another coffee and chat on the 25th of June. Attendance have been down at these events for the past few weeks, I suggest the weather and covid are responsible for these low numbers. One or two of the topics would be more appropriate for a technical session at the shack as we will need two hours to do them justice. A progress report from Jackie on VK5SF (Mikes) progress. Hi Phil, Mike is still in the stroke ward at the Flinders hospital. It has been eight weeks now. He has made some progress in that he is placed in a special wheelchair each day which at first was difficult for him to cope with but now he can sit in it for two hours. He still cannot talk, eat or drink. His right side is still paralysed but he is starting to feel some sensation there. I am hopeful he will improve further but I do not know if he will. The doctors give me no encouragement for this but I hope he can eventually come home. Jackie Wishing you all a pleasant rest of the week, stay safe and away from covid, Phil VK5SRP -- Cheers Phil Storr PO Box 501 Modbury South Australia 5092 philipstorr.id.au philstorr@adam.com.au VK5SR The first item is a very sad report, many of you know Mike, VK5SF, and many of you would have spoken to him on air. He has been a regular at the NERC coffee mornings at the library. I have attached an email from his wife in response to my question “how is he going in hospital”.
Barry VK5BW has been assessed and is able to drive again so all he has to do is wait for the Motor Vehicles Department to catch up with their paperwork. The new version of the calendar incorporating changes we made at the last committee meeting is on the web site. At the next General Meeting on the 19th of May Dean VK5LB will show and tell us about the antenna tuning units he has made. Sorry to Dean, he must have missed my message about the change of speaker for the night, he is the speaker for the May meeting.
